Question by GREAT_AMERICAN: Why is the Rush Limbaugh Audience Among Most Knowledgeable and Educated in All of American Media?
Rush Limbaugh Audience Among Most
Knowledgeable and Educated in All of American Media

RUSH: I just got this, and I’m not able to study it and really make a whole lot of sense out of it. It’s a Pew survey on who watches television and what the partisan political split of various TV show audiences is and all. You get down to what the Pew — P-e-w — survey of this stuff, you get down to one section, who’s got the smartest, who has the most knowledgeable audience, and on television — just listen to what this says. “On television, The O’Reilly Factor, has the most knowledgeable audience, 27% of the audience are college grads, which matches the national average,” but, but:

Only three audiences in the Pew survey scored higher on high knowledge than O’Reilly at his Factor TV show. Regular readers of The New Yorker and the Atlantic, regular Rush Limbaugh listeners, and regular Weekly Standard and New Republic readers. I don’t know if there’s anybody above that. I don’t have that, because radio and this stuff is not part of the survey, at least from the website that I’m reading this from. But I have always known it. I have always known that you people are among the most knowledgeable, engaged, informed, and educated people listening to any media in the country today. I think I found documented evidence of it here from Pew, but it’s just a little aside in a story about television audiences.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I had some time to dig deep into this Pew survey for People and the Press, and it starts out here by saying, “News audiences vary widely in age, education, and how much they know about what’s going on in the nation and the world.” Then there’s a ranking here of various television programs. At any rate: “Judged by their answers to three knowledge questions, the most informed audiences belong to the political magazines, Rush Limbaugh’s radio show, The O’Reilly Factor, news magazines, and online news sources. Close behind are the regular audiences for NPR and The Daily Show.”

It doesn’t look good for the major broadcast networks. At any rate, education, age, and knowledge. College grads, this program number two, at 37%. The average age of the audience of this program, 51, and the high knowledge score is 48, and its number two. This program, number two in all of American media in education and knowledge. It is preceded only by the Weekly Standard and New Republic readers, 38% college grads, 38 is the average age. The libs are dragging us down a little bit. Eh, the libs may be dragging down the Weekly Standard a bit.

Because people who listen to talk radio care about this country. The liberals are too busy watching Good Morning America or Entertainment Tonight.

Question by all4salim: is it unbecoming for the media to avoid Obama jokes?
yesterday i was watching the pathetic wash-up version of David Letterman giving his opening monologue for his late-night show. He opened up with some topical humor:
a joke (or two) about Hilary Clinton.
a joke about republican nominee John McCain.
of course, the token Bush joke or two.
but the monologue continued after that, with no mention (negative or positive) of Barack Hussein Obama Jr.

This is not an isolate incident – just the most recent one that comes to mind. Seeing as how the media fawns over and praises Obama so much, what are they going to use as joke material when Obama is president? The type of comedy that is on display in shows like “the Daily Show” and “Colbert Report” would hardly survive with a minority president who these comics clearly feel is untouchable…

Is it unbecoming of hollywood (which has resoundingly thrown its big money and backing behind Obama) to lay off their man? ???

Obama is part of a minority. In America its considered incorrect to make jokes about them. Double standards.

Question by Dr. Bill Fine: Do you find portions of the media indicitive of a forced trend that leads us towards numbness of soul?
Take “The Onion Radio News” Podcasts for example. The latest Podcast is titled “Calendar of Dead Child Still Good for 11 Months.” That title is utterly ridiculous. Now while I can find humor in a lot of things, the death of children is a perverse twist on sickness of the mind. CHILD is the keyword here. And it has NOTHING to do with free speech. There is no such thing anymore. You are only FREE to speak if you have enough money and your message is in-line with the fore mentioned trend.

I’m telling you folks, we are in a WORLD of trouble here in the USA. if we do not get the current GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS OUT, we are going to be looking at an internal conflict where millions of people are eventually going to be both imprisoned, and killed.

We have a MAJOR problem here in the USA. And it ain’t Muslim’s or any other brand of foreign terrorist aside from the European influences. We are in T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

Can you see this too?
So people may better understand what I am saying, when you are exposed to headlines such as the one above, even as comedy, when you hear it for real it does not have the same impact as if you heard it for real the first time.

The elite, who control the media, government and everything else know this. So what they are doing is numbing us down for when the headlines start pouring out about kids, wives and families being slaughtered for the war on terrorism or something equally ridiculous like in Iraq, except, it will be here, in the USA. We are being numbed down so those in power, for whatever reason, can fill those concentration/work camps Halliburton IS TRULY BUILDING RIGHT NOW.

People, you are being brainwashed and if you do not wake up REAL SOON, well, you’ll be even more shocked when they kick your front door in and haul your @$$ off to work camp number 3743.

It is coming and you are invited. OPEN YOUR EYES AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
Turn off the TV. IGNORE all forms of media for two weeks and then sit down and watch about an hour of the news, commercials, talk shows, etc. You will be ready to puke as your mind will have healed a bit from the two weeks away and you will begin, at least, to realize the lies government is spewing through the media. You will realize almost every single person involved in media is a traitor to decency, not to mention the country.

I agree with your take on the media only letting people have say if they have enough money to dish out. Such is the way of capitalism, sadly. That’s what the internet is for: looney people from the left and right side of the political spectrum have a medium where they can freely talk without fear of persecution, and it only costs as much as your DSL/cable/dial-up bill. Although I don’t think it has much to do with the current gov’t officials: it’s like this around the world.

Question by Paul Johnson: Isn’t “The Daily Show” a better source for political news than most media outlets?
Also, I think they should expand the show to one hour and put the first run on live at 8pm eastern. They should have no more breaks, just maybe have a guest host if Jon needs the day off. Maybe we could get a petition going for this.

Yes. I love the Daily Show and feel that it covers the news better than the major news stations. Pretty sad that it outdoes the rest because the Daily Show supposed to be a comedy, not accurate news…
